The Role of Educational Counseling in Reducing School Dropout from the Perspective of Basic Education Teachers in Msallata Municipality

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the role of educational counseling in reducing school dropout from the perspective of basic education teachers in Msallata Municipality, as well as to uncover the most prominent obstacles that limit the effectiveness of educational counseling inside schools. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire as the main data collection tool. The questionnaire consisted of two main axes comprising 12 items and was administered to a random sample of 50 male and female basic education teachers in Msallata Municipality. The results showed that educational counseling plays an effective role in reducing school dropout by monitoring students at risk of dropping out, enhancing their learning motivation, and strengthening the relationship between the school and parents. Furthermore, the findings revealed a set of obstacles affecting the effectiveness of educational counseling, most notably the shortage of educational counselors, weak school resources, excessive administrative burdens, and the lack of cooperation from some parents. The study recommended the necessity of supporting educational counseling in schools, increasing the number of educational counselors, providing the necessary resources to implement counseling programs, and strengthening school-family cooperation to mitigate school dropout.
